#ThreeThingsThursday: From Fat To Finish Line Update, #GlobalRunningDay & An OWS

How about that for a post title? I think everyone knows EXACTLY what I'll be writing about today. :P No obscurity there for sure! :)

Overall this past week has had some pretty sweet moments. While the rain was pouring down in Boston, my mood started to plummet like the temps. BUT amazing people and experiences always know how to add a little sunshine to the dreariest of days!

So let's check out 3 of those:

1) From Fat To Finish Line Update

After months of working as the Communications Specialist for the FFTFL community. If you need to be brought up on THAT news and group, check out this post before continuing to read.

It's okay... I'll wait.

All caught up? Great!

Well I was FINALLY able to meet the brains behind the documentary and the community, Angela and Jen! They were coming to Boston and we hit up a Flywheel class before enjoying dinner on Tuesday night.

Not only did we have an awesome time but I GOT A NEW PR!!!!! Aaahhhh I broke out a 347! The first time I ever went to Fly, my score was 262. Talk about a VAST improvement over time. Just shows I am getting stronger.

On Wednesday we got to have a pretty exciting meeting with Runkeeper. I will leave it at that for now. ;)

BUT we got to meet with THE voice behind the french narrator of your runs on Runkeeper. Ooohh la la... Yes I was totally fangirling and had to resist asking her for a selfie in the middle of the meeting.

2) #GlobalRunningDay

If you somehow missed it, yesterday was Global Running Day. I shared with everyone the #1 way to celebrate. Did it shock you?

Well I took my own advice and got together with some friends to 1) run and 2) celebrate my friend Colleen's birthday.

How amazing are all these faces???? :)

We ate some hills for dinner before enjoying some local beer at Winter Hill Brewery. Great local establishment and only 1/2 a mile from my house. Talk about convenient.

I can never put in to words how much running has changed by life, but it put these people in my life and I am grateful for that!

3) OWS = Open Water Swim

When the phone alarm went off at 4:30am this morning, I leapt out of bed to shut it off before the wife and dogs woke up. I had to meet my dad on the front porch by 5am so we could make the drive to the Mystic Lakes (thankfully just a 15-18 min drive from our house).

The reason?

I needed to get at least one OWS (Open Water Swim) before my first triathlon of the season, which is on Saturday. Better late than never, right? I mean I've been putting in a ton of time in the pool, but nothing outside.

I really needed to see how cold the water would be.

Plus this was a pretty sweet view to have. :)

I put my wetsuit on, while my dad got in the kayak. He would be kayaking alongside me while I swam so I wouldn't be alone.

I put my toes into the water and... it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.

The wetsuit, of course, was a huge help, but my feet, hands and face wouldn't have any coverage. The cold hit me when I put my face in. OOF that woke me up for sure.

Thankfully once I got going, the body got acclimated. Phew! Thank goodness.

We just did a quick 0.333 mile swim since that is what I will be covering on Saturday. It felt great to be swimming outside. I really love being out in a lake, river or ocean: seeing the trees along the edge and feeling like I'm part of nature.

With that done, I need to take my bike outside once before Saturday. When? That is the bigger question.

Wow! These are amazing memories that bring a smile to my face every time I think about them. I am truly blessed to have such amazing opportunities in my life all thanks to taking the step to a healthier me in 2009!

Happy Friday Eve Everyone!
